A Man Born to Serve

David Bride grew up in Gary, Indiana, where he learned the values of hard work, faith, and community from his parents. The son of a steelworker father and a Teamster mother who was also a home health aide and CNA, David learned early how to embrace the struggle — to keep going even when life felt heavy.

He has driven IndyGo buses, worked on the back of a trash truck, cared for patients as a CNA, served in law enforcement, and answered his country's call as a United States Marine. After an honorable discharge due to injury, he pursued higher education at Indiana University and then built nearly two decades of dedicated city service.

Today, David serves as Administrator of the Stormwater Division for the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, and formerly led the Central Indiana AFL-CIO — representing 40 unions and more than 52,000 working people across 6 counties.

A Life Dedicated to Service

From the steel mills of Gary to the halls of City Hall — David Bride's life has been one of grit, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to the people around him. This is his story.

🏙️ Gary, Indiana

Born & Raised in the Steel City

David Bride was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, to Larry Bride and Diane Bride. Growing up with his two sisters and brother, he learned early the importance of family, hard work, and community.

His mother was a Teamster and a CNA from Lake County Convalescent Home. Through both of his parents, David learned what it truly meant to be a public servant and a community leader. They instilled in him integrity and the importance of speaking up for those who couldn't speak up for themselves.

"They taught me that you don't just show up for your family — you show up for your community."

David graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1988 and immediately went to work with his father in the Laborers Union, Local 41, working side by side in the steel mills.

Answering a Higher Call

After working in the steel mills, David decided to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps in 1991. Though his time in the Marine Corps was cut short due to a training injury, he was honorably discharged and is now a service-connected disabled veteran.

His experience in the Corps strengthened his sense of duty and commitment to serving both his country and his community — lessons he carries with him every single day.

Following his military service, David attended Indiana University, and was given the opportunity to work part-time for the Indiana University Police Department after moving to Indianapolis in 1995.

From the Back of a Truck to City Leader

In April of 2007, David began his career with the City of Indianapolis. He started on the back of a trash truck and worked his way up over the years to become an Administrator — a journey that embodies everything he stands for.

During this time, he also held several union memberships including the ATU, the Teamsters, and AFSCME Local 725, and served in roles across union leadership and political organizing.

"I started where most people don't want to look. That's exactly where I learned what this city really needs."

David has also done CNA work and home health care — helping people improve their quality of life — and has served as a foster dad, adopting six children out of the foster care system.

Voice of 52,000 Working People

One of David's most cherished accomplishments is becoming the Central Indiana AFL-CIO President, representing over 40 unions and 52,000 members across a wide range of trades and professions.

This role taught him how to lead and how to bring people with different opinions, agendas, and needs together toward a common goal — serving their members and their community.

His leadership positions have included Secretary-Treasurer for the Marion County Democratic Party, Vice Chair of the Marion County Democratic Party, Secretary-Treasurer for Council 962 Indiana and Kentucky, union steward, political director, and Warren Township Advisory Board member.

David is married to Natisha Bride, and together they have a beautiful daughter, Nakota Bride, a student at Park Tudor.

🌟 Why He's Running

David Bride would like to become the next Mayor of the City of Indianapolis — not for the title, but for the commitment to help people meet their needs and improve their quality of life in this city.

He has dedicated his life to serving people, helping people, and getting things done. When you meet David, you'll understand.

What David Will Fight For

David hasn't studied Indianapolis from a boardroom. He's driven its buses, managed its stormwater, fought for its workers, and served its residents for nearly two decades. His platform comes from that lived experience.

🛡️
Public Safety First

As a former law enforcement officer who has seen violence up close, David will fully fund Indianapolis police and fire, invest in community-based crime prevention, and hold leadership accountable for real results — not just talking points. Safe streets for every neighborhood.

👷
Good Jobs for Working People

David is a union man — Laborers' Union, AFSCME, AFL-CIO. As mayor, he will fight for living wages, protect worker rights, attract quality employers citywide, and ensure city contracts go to workers who actually live in Indianapolis.

🏠
Housing & Affordability

Working families are being priced out. David will champion policies to expand affordable housing, protect existing neighborhoods from predatory development, and give every resident — renter and homeowner alike — a real shot at stability.

🛣️
Infrastructure That Works

As Stormwater Division Administrator, David knows Indianapolis' infrastructure from the inside out. He will bring disciplined, expert leadership to road repair, drainage, and transit — in every neighborhood, not just the ones with the loudest lobbies.

🎖️
Supporting Our Veterans

As a proud disabled veteran, David understands what our service members sacrifice — and the gaps in support they face when they come home. He will make Indianapolis a model city for veteran employment, services, and recognition.

⚖️
Honest, Accountable Government

David started on the back of a trash truck. He knows what city government looks like from the ground floor. He will bring transparency, fiscal discipline, and an unwavering commitment to serving residents — not political donors — to the mayor's office.

Why I'm Running

I've worked on the back of a trash truck. I've driven the buses. I've cared for patients. I've served in the Marines and I've walked picket lines. Indianapolis didn't give me a head start — it gave me a reason to work. Now I want to give every resident that same opportunity. — David Bride

Real Experience

David hasn't just studied Indianapolis — he's lived it, worked it, and served it in roles from transit driver to city administrator. He leads from knowledge, not theory.

Voice for Workers

As AFL-CIO President representing 52,000+ members, David has proven he can organize, advocate, and deliver for working families. That coalition will come with him to City Hall.

Discipline & Integrity

From the Marine Corps to nearly two decades in city service, David's record is built on showing up and doing the work. No shortcuts. That's the standard Indianapolis deserves.
